Q 1. Who is Stephano ? What message has he brought? Ans :- Stephano is one of Portia's servants.
The message that he has brought is that his mistress will be at Belmont before day break. At present she is wandering about the roadside shrines with crosses where she kneels and prays for happiness in her married life.
Q2. Who comes along with Portia? What does Sephano ask Lorenzo about his master?
Ans:- A holy hermit and her maid, Nerissa come along with Portia.
Stephano asks Lorenzo if his master, Bassanio has returned to Belmont or not.
Q3. What does Lorenzo tell about the moonlight and the music after Stephano leaves the scene ? What does he tell Jessica about the floor of heaven?
Ans:- Lorenzo says that the moonlight falls very pleasantly on the bank where they decide to sit. About the music, he says let music gently enter their ears. Further he apprises that the silence of the night provides a good background for soothing music. He tells Jessica to look at the floor of the heaven (sky) which is thickly decorated with patens (stars) of bright gold.
Q4. What does the smallest orb do?
Ans:- The smallest planest that they see is moving and is producing music as sweet as an angel's song as it travels through the sky. The stars are also singing in a choir to the bright - eyed cherubins (angels).
Q5. What effect does music have on animals ?
Ans:- A wild and wanton herd or a race of youthful and unhandled colts jumps about madly, bellowing and neighing aloud which is natural due to their wild blood.
If they hear the sound of the trumpet or any air of music touch their ears, they then stop jumping madly and all come to a standstill. Their wild eyes turn into a modest gaze by the sweet power of music.
